Supporting students to stand in their power.

At Movement, we center the needs of students in everything we do. Aside from teaching faculty how to support marginalized students in the fullness of their humanity, we also offer programming tailored to student needs.

Student Offerings

Empowerment Workshops:

Two-hour interactive virtual workshops designed to empower participants to navigate academic environments.

Lunch and Learn:

A lunch discussion with students to solidify concepts learned during a workshop. Can also be an opportunity to hear Dra. Nicole's story and engage in an extended Q&A.

Mentoring Hours:

Sessions that provide a space to answer any questions that participants may have about graduate school, academia, personal well-being, careers, or any other topic. Perfect for students who could benefit from speaking to mentors of marginalized identities. Can be booked as one-on-one mentoring sessions or as group mentoring sessions (up to 5 students per group).

Science can be so much more rewarding when you are grounded in your own identity - when the hidden contributions and intellect and success of your people are revealed to you.

WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING

  • Monica Gallegos Garcia

Dra. Nicole has been one of my most supportive mentors for the last 3 years. Through her work I was able to step into graduate school feeling more confidence in myself. I am so grateful to say that with Dra. Nicole’s support I was awarded the Ford Foundation Fellowship during my first year of graduate school. Her passion for helping students is indispensable. Every underserved student deserves someone like her.

  • Tenley Hutchinson-Smith

Dra. Nicole has played an active role in supporting students of color by helping us learn about topics such as practicing self-care and navigating imposter phenomenon. The work she does is very important in STEM because these fields tend to discourage marginalized students the most. Dra. Nicole knows how to give us the confidence we need, as well as making these fields more inclusive to us.

  • Arcelia Hermosillo Ruiz

Dra. Nicole has made a lasting impact on my life. Through her workshops and mentoring sessions, I have learned personal life lessons and equitable practices. Not only has she helped me acknowledge my accomplishments and potential, she helped me edit my fellowship and I was awarded the NSF-GRFP! Her work makes me believe that I really could thrive in academia and be the professor I’ve always wanted to be.
